G7 Summit 2026 in Evian: Modi–Trump Talks Signal Strategic Reset Amid Global Geopolitical Tensions
G7 Summit 2026 in Evian sees major global discussions on Ukraine, Iran, West Asia, and economic growth. Modi and Trump are expected to meet for talks on defence, trade, and geopolitical tensions. Leaders reaffirm support for Ukraine, address cybercrime, migration, and global health crises, and push for renewed international cooperation.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Donald Trump are expected to hold bilateral discussions on strengthening India–US relations. Although official details of the meeting have not been disclosed, the agenda is anticipated to cover defence cooperation, trade relations, and the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The engagement comes at a time when relations between the two countries have been strained by tariff disputes, trade disagreements, and the continuing conflict involving Iran.
The summit, attended by leaders of the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, and France, has also invited representatives from India, Brazil, Kenya, and South Korea, broadening the scope of dialogue on global economic and security concerns.
On the geopolitical front, the G7 nations reiterated strong and unwavering support for Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia. In an official declaration, the bloc stated: “We reaffirm our solidarity with the Ukrainian population suffering from attacks on their critical infrastructure and cultural heritage. We commend Ukraine for its resilience and progress on the battlefield in recent months and emphasize there is now a new momentum.”
The leaders also welcomed the announcement of a peace arrangement between the United States and Iran, aimed at pausing hostilities in the region and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.
Further addressing regional tensions, the G7 called for an immediate end to violence in the occupied West Bank. The statement also expressed concern over North Korea’s nuclear programme, urging the country to resolve the abductions issue without delay. It further highlighted the need for coordinated international action against North Korean cryptocurrency thefts and cybercrimes.
Beyond security matters, the G7 and participating nations committed to addressing migrant smuggling networks, strengthening efforts in the global fight against cancer, responding to Ebola outbreaks, and intensifying measures against drug trafficking. The summit continues to serve as a key platform for coordinated global policy responses to interconnected economic, security, and humanitarian challenges.
The G7 Summit 2026 thus concludes its sessions in Evian with renewed commitments to global stability, economic resilience, and multilateral cooperation amid escalating international tensions.a
